Types of monitor controllers

- [Instructor] Depending on the needs of the engineer, a monitor controller can simply be a volume control for the speaker, but can also offer many tools that are necessary for specific tasks. The main purpose of the monitor controller is to offer the necessary features needed, but also to do so transparently, as to not color the sound going to the speaker. You want to be able to hear your audio as accurately as possible so that your adjustments will translate on other systems. Just like with summing units, it has become a more common thing to have a dedicated monitor control unit that is designed for rack mount or desktop use. This has allowed smaller home studio set-ups to become powerful and extremely efficient as they offer functions that were only available on a large format console.
