Understanding sample rate and bit depth

- Before we get into the, you know, main training stuff, let's first talk about digital audio itself. Specifically, in this movie, we're going to look at two properties of digital audio, sample rate and bit depth. This info will come into play constantly as you work with digital audio. Choosing the wrong settings when recording can potentially create some issues, maybe even disasters, down the road. Let's talk first about sample rate. We know that audio is created by oscillating waves of frequencies, right? Well, if we're going to capture this wave digitally, we need to take snapshots of this wave form. These snapshots are called samples. We measure the number of snapshots in samples per second. The more snapshots or samples that we have per second, the more accurately we can represent the wave form and the cleaner our audio will sound.
