Using the Smart Tool

- [Instructor] The Smart Tool in Pro Tools gives you instant access to the Trim, Selector, and Grabber functions without having to change tools. It also allows you to easily create fades and crossfades. I'm working in a session called The K-Strats here for demonstration purposes and I'll start by activating the Smart Tool. To enable the Smart Tool, simply click on the bar over the Trim, Selector, and Grabber tools so that all three of them become highlighted in blue. When enabled, your mouse cursor will change based on its position within a clip. In the top half of a clip, the Selector will be active. In the bottom half, the Grabber will be active. Near either edge of a clip, the Trim tool will be active. Because the tool function changes at different positions within a clip, you may find it hard to control when you're zoomed out and when you're working with smaller track heights.
