- [Instructor] With the basic mix in place, it's time to think about whether you want to include any dynamic changes in your final result. The automation features in Pro Tools make it easy to capture panning changes, fader moves, and other dynamic changes you make during the course of a session. Let's take a look at the basic principles of automation so you can begin using automated moves in your own mixes. For this introduction to automation, I'll limit the discussion to three modes, Off Mode, Read Mode, and Write Mode. Now in Off Mode, Pro Tools will ignore any automation that exists on the track. In Read Mode, Pro Tools will play back existing automation, but you will not be able to write any new automation. In Write Mode, Pro Tools will be writing automation whenever the transport is rolling.
