Welcome

- [Greg] Hi, I'm Greg Wurth, and I want to welcome you to fundamentals of professional audio equipment. I'm a music producer, recording and mix engineer, as well as a huge fan of the equipment and technology involved in audio production. I've always been fascinated to learn who's behind the designs and how they make it all work. Without the advancements in audio recording technology, we wouldn't be able to achieve most of what we do in the studio today. This course is a broad overview of some of the most influential pieces of equipment that have been used in recording studios dating back as far as the 1930s as well as some of the very latest technologies. I'll be sharing images, brochures, and diagrams throughout this course to give you an even better picture of the concepts that underlie these pieces of equipment. In this course, we'll be covering some of the most classic microphones and pre-amps, as well as compressors and EQs. We'll also look at digital converters followed by the benefits of analog summing. Then, we'll wrap up with analog emulation and monitoring. Along the way, I'll be sharing some audio examples that'll help clarify the differences and nuances between the equipment that will be discussed. If you're ready to dive in to the fundamentals of professional audio equipment, let's get started.
