What is foley?

- [Instructor] Sometimes Stock Sound Effects, they just don't work. They don't fit. You kind of need to sometimes do things yourself. You need to create your own sounds. And that's what Foley is. Foley is the art and the procedure of creating your own sound effects like in a studio, that more closely match exactly what you're saying. Some of those common Foley actions are footsteps. Because you can really control, you get the exact same shoes, the same type of surface, and you could stop them, and walk in them exactly the way the characters are moving or walking or whatever. And it creates a much more realistic effect. So here we have Bruce Williams as a final audio. He was another sound designer that kind of did the final mix and the final sound design, and the ambiances for the whole entire film. We'll talk about our workflow with all the people that we used later on in this course, but here's what he came up with…
