What you should know before watching

- So, you know when you walk into a bookstore, and you might see a section where you've got a book, The Five Ways of Staying Healthy or The 10 Ways of Getting Better Sleep, any of those types of books, they always make me nauseous and a little bit uncomfortable because who knows, isn't there an 11th way to do something, or what if the fourth way of this thing is really eating grapefruit instead of eating a banana, and, anyway. What's this have to do with music? For me, making music is something that everyone does differently, and that's the best thing about it. The ideas that I want to show here in this course are about how I make music and how I think about music, but it's just one way out of millions. For example, I'm going to use ProTools in this course, but this isn't about ProTools, it's not a ProTools course, it's about understanding the concepts and the techniques of music production. I've tried to break down the song production process into a series of steps that make sense, but the breakdown in these sections is just what works for me. You must find your own steps, and that's totally cool. The idea is to give you a jumping-off point. So as a producer and a creative person, and I assume you are too, the most important thing that you can do is to develop your own sound and your own methods. Learning and trying is how you get there. It's how you get better at things. But also, finding your own thing is the only way to become the best at something. You've got to make it your own. So watch this course and hopefully learn from it, but more importantly, let it open up paths to you finding your own sound and your own techniques.
