When and how to use reverb on bass guitar

- [Voiceover] Years ago I was working on a record and the bass player suggested, hey, put some reverb on the bass for that part. And I thought he was crazy, I mean to me, electric bass guitar should always be dry and sitting there deep in the mix with the drums, and it seemed like reverb would make it sound really weird. But the results that we got were astounding, and it really helped the mix a lot. Since then, I've kept my ears open for spots in a song where maybe the instruments drop out a little bit and maybe the bass could sort of come to the fore, or just create a different atmosphere. This part of the song right here is a case in point. (music plays very faintly) So you had the piano and bass carrying that section, so it seemed logical that the bass, which might be sort of deeper in the mix and the rest of the song, would come to the fore here in a sort of way. And not just with volume, of course, but we're gonna add some space to the bass. And we're do that with reverb. So, my…
