When to turn vocal effects off

- [Voiceover] Sometimes removing vocal effects in a song can have a special dramatic impact. On this song I decided that I would have the vocal effect only come in on the chorus. On this example it's a reverb. ♫ Play his records for ♫ Oh, will he ever start again ♫ In soloed you can hear it. I've got this channel on the bottom here just set up to actually feed the reverb. You can see over here. There's the EMT and the EQ going in. ♫ Play his records for ♫ Oh, will he ever ♫ So you get a real different effect there when the vocals hit. Another way to mess with it is to think like, maybe there's certain lines of the songs that should have some effects on them. In this case, I put some vocal reverb, isolated the tracks here of every other line of the verse, so we have a longer, deeper reverb than the one we hear on the chorus. And we'll hear it like this. ♫ It's empty now ♫ This heart's so nice ♫ Exhausted friend ♫ He's humorless, sleeping ♫ So you can hear, like soloed, you can hear how…
