- [Narrator] Sometimes it's tough to get the bass to speak in the mix. Here's a trick that seems counterintuitive at first, but really does work. First of all, let's listen to the track, just guitar, bass and drums. (rock music) Now this sounds pretty good by itself, because it has good amount of low end, and a good amount of high end, so it's a nice balance. But we can actually make the sound a little bit better, and we can make it speak better on smaller speakers. And that's what we're trying to do. You can easily make it sound really good on a large sound system. It's when you get small speakers, like earbuds or computer speakers, that you really need to focus on some of the frequencies that you usually don't think about, especially on a bass. So the first thing we're going to do is add an EQ that has both high and low-pass filters, and it has at least a two band EQ. In this case, we're going to use our native, seven band Pro Tools EQ.
