The importance of audio in film

- [Instructor] I'd like you to take a look at this. This is behind the scenes of us filming The Assurance. We didn't have the biggest crew, but there are still quite a few people here. There's a gaffer, a best boy. There's a script supervisor, first AD, camera operator, first assistant camera operator, production assistant, wardrobe, and on and on and on and on. Most of these people helped to shape the look of the film, but what about the audio? Well, we only had one audio person, two at the most, to take care of that whole thing. Productions vary wildly in scope and size, but you're likely to always see a ratio that is this disproportionate. This disparity often leads new filmmakers to think that audio isn't quite as important as video, or it doesn't need as much effort or resources and maybe on some levels that's true.
