The mono listening trick

- [Instructor] If you talk to any of the classic mixers who came from the world of mono, they'll all tell you that that they used to spend far more time getting the mono mix together than the stereo. That's because you have to work a lot harder to get everything to fit together so you could hear it. In other words, if you get your mix sound good in mono, it will sound great when you put it into stereo. Here's how you do that. First of all, let's listen to the song just as it is, it's close to the final mix and it's in stereo. ("Tall Skinny Papa" by Andrianna Marie/Groovecutters) That sounds pretty good, but we can get the balances a tad better by putting it in mono. Many work stations have a mono switch built in on either their monitoring panel or somewhere on the master mix panel. Or you may have a mono switch on your outboard monitor controller.
