- [Narrator] The SSL Buss Compressor has been heard on hit records since the console was invented in the early 80s and you can easily get that same sound in your recording too. Here's the right way to set the SSL Buss Compressor up to get that famous sound. So first of all, let's listen to the song without any mix buss compression at all. (heavy music) Now, what I do have going here is a limiter and the only thing the limiter is there for is just to cut the peaks off, but it really doesn't add anything to the sound one way or the other, just watch. (heavy music) It's just there to control the peaks, that's all. And one of the things you can see is how much the meters bounce without any buss compression. (heavy music) It's quite a lot, so, let's add the famous SSL Buss Compressor. There's a lot of companies that make a software emulation of the buss compressor and they all sound a little different but what I'm going to use is the SSL G-Series Buss Compressor.
