- After you get the project definition in writing, the next step is to make sure it's correct. That is, it accurately represents what the customer needs to achieve. For small projects, confirming the project definition is fairly easy because you usually have only one or two people to please. The key is to meet with the customer and other key stakeholders to review the definition. Don't send an email asking, hey, is this project definition correct? They might reply with a yes, without ever reading it. Instead, walk through each component of the definition; objectives, deliverables, success criteria and scope. You've probably had conversations where someone said, oh, I thought you meant. Don't assume that the customer sees the definition in the same way you do. For each element in the project definition, paraphrase what's written. Describing something using different words could uncover inaccurate information.
