- As team members work on their assignments, you need to find out what they get done and what's still left to do. Updates tell you where the project stands and whether you need to do anything to get it back on track. Two measures almost always top the list. Most customers have a finish date in mind, like opening the new office before the lease on the old one is up. Cost is the other given. For freelancers, contracts could have a not to exceed amount. You either have to finish your work within the allotted number of hours or get approval for more time. In a large organization, you might have a corporate budget to stick to.
