- After the customer signs off on the project, it's time to clean up the loose ends. You hold one last meeting with your team before you send them off to their next assignment. Then you finalize the project documentation and close out financial details. Most people want to get onto their next project, so they would rather skip a lessons learned session. If a project goes badly, they would rather not think about what happened. But this step is really important. Lessons learned can help prevent problems in the future and improve performance on future projects. By documenting lessons learned, everyone can benefit from them, even people who didn't work on the project. Start with what went well. This gives you a chance to recognize the good work that people do, and you can share these techniques with others so they can be used on other projects.
