- [Narrator] The ECW, or enhanced compressed wavelet, is an image format that is much smaller than images such as TIF or JPEG. Using these smaller ECW formats will increase the overall performance of your map and take up much less room on your hard drive. Let's add one now. So before I even start, what's really important is to set my project coordinate system. Right now if you look down in the bottom right hand corner, it says EPSG 4326, but I know that my raster, or my aerial photos, are actually in EPSG 26910, which is UTM zone 10 north in meters. So I'm going to select that instead and hit OK. So now you should see down in the bottom right-hand corner the EPSG 26910, perfect, we're ready to add raster. So then I'm going to go into the raster and drag and drop one of the ECWs. Now it says it wants to transform it into something else.
