Exporting layers to shapefiles
- Since QGIS can connect to many data sources including Oracle, SQL Server, Post-GIS, and shape files, you may want to make your data more transportable. Exporting any vector layer to shape enables you to move that data around that may have been inside a database, such as HostGIS or SQL Server. Also, you can filter any vector data and export that as a subset of the data to a shape file as well. Let's do that. In my pipes layer, I'm going to double-click on it and filter it. So under Source, I'm going to go to Query Builder, I'm going to bring Type in where it's like, oh, only want one like, so I'll delete that, and we're going to query all the types. Now, I really just want to get all the supply lines. Now there's multiple that say supply, so what we can do is we can put a single quote, a percent sign, which is a wild card, so it means it can begin with anything, and put the word "supply", and then a single quote.…
