Using the exercise files

- [Presenter] This course provides a company backup file you can restore in order to follow along. This file doesn't have payroll turned on. So you need to sign up for a payroll subscription or free trial and activate it in this file. You don't have to use this file. If you already have a company file and an Intuit payroll subscription, you can follow along using your own data. Here's how to restore the QuickBooks backup file to a company file. Up at the top left, I'm going to click file and then choose open or restore company, select the button for restore a backup copy, and then click next. Keep local backup selected and click next again. Now you want to navigate to where you place the exercise files folder on your computer. In this case, I put it on my desktop. When I look in the exercise files folder, I can see the backup file. So I'm going to select that file and click open. The next thing you have to do is specify where you want to restore the file, click next. And in this case, I'm just going to put it in the exercise files folder. So that's already selected. One thing I want to do though, is I want to change the name. I'm just going to call this payroll test and then click save. It could take a few minutes for QuickBooks to restore this backup to a regular company file. This file does have a password assigned, but this is just fake data. So the password is Admin, the capital A, 12345 then click okay to open up the company file. When you see this window about an Intuit account, you could fill in the admin's email or user ID. However I'm going to select, you're not the admin, and then click continue. When you do that, you will get a reminder within seven days to sign into your Intuit account. I'm going to click, okay. And now the company file is ready to use. Each video builds on the previous ones. So you can use this file for the entire course.
