- [Instructor] To configure our Linux host computers network, we need to be able to set a few things, including the hostname, the name resolution, the IP address, the network mask, and a default gateway. We can manage our hostname two ways; first, by editing the /etc/hostname file or by using the hostnamectl command. Using the hostnamectl command is preferable as it manages the hostname everywhere, including saving it to the /etc/hostname file. We'll also want our hosting to resolve to an IP address. We can handle name resolution two ways; first, we can manage it statically by adding an entry to the/etc/host file. It's a very simple file with an IP address. Then white spaces followed by a hostname. And lastly, a n alias, if desired. We can also use DNS. We won't be going into managing DNS servers in this course.
