Delayed mounting with autofs

- [Instructor] I outlined a problem in a previous video about mounting NFS drives at boot. If the network is down or the drive is not accessible, the boot process may freeze for quite some time. Eventually limits will time out and it will continue booting However, it can be irritating. In this situation we want to use autofs to mount our drive only as we need it and not at boot time. Another advantage to this is that no memory is used for file systems that are not yet mounted. With autofs the file system will mount and unmount based on usage. Let's install the autofs service if it isn't already. Be sure you're logged in to your rhhost2 VM and have a terminal open. In the terminal type sudo space yum space install space dash y space autofs. Type in your password if prompted. Before we get too far along, let's also comment out the NFS line in the SESF tab file. Type in clear and then type in sudo space vi space slash etc slash fs tab and hit enter. Go into insert mode by pressing i and…
