- [Instructor] Samba is a more complex system than NFS and has some fairly complex commands to learn. Mount.cifs is the version of mount for mounting SMB and CIFS shares on the client. Samba is different than NFS in that it maintains its own passwords in a database. Pdbedit is used to main the local user database stored in slash fire, slash lib, slash Samba, slash private, slash SMB password. SMB client is an interactive FTP like tool for accessing SMB shares. I use it mostly as a testing tool to verify configuration options, as it's easier to troubleshoot than a mount. Smbpasswd is very similar to the password command in Linux, it sets user passwords. In this case, smbpasswd sets Samba passwords. Due the the Samba configuration file being much more complicated than NFS, the chance of having a syntax error is higher.
