Establishing shared coordinates
models linked together, it can be time consuming to get them all positioned correctly, relative to one another. Furthermore, when you're in one host file, and you set up all the links and then you open up the linked file, and you want to cross link the same file back to it, you'd have to do all that setup over again. it would be quite tedious, but Revit has a really nice tool to help us with this, and it's called shared coordinates. So what I'm going to do is, using this simple example where I have three files, I've got the office building file here, that I'm actually in right now, so you can see I can select the geometry in that file, I've got a site model here which is linked in, and then I have this little outbuilding here which is also linked in. So it's a total of three different files, I want to set up shared coordinates so that each of these three files not only knows about each other, but knows where they go on the site automatically so that Revit can maintain that for me, and…
