Trimming the rafters

- [Instructor] Chapter 405, we are going to trim out these rafters now. And as I pointed out in the previous lesson it gets a little bit trickier around here just because we've got to reduce the length of these longer ones, because it's going to retain the longer bit, regardless of where we click. So we're going to start off by going to the south elevation. And we've got our cut line here. We've trimmed out this end one, but we're going to trim out the remainder along this edge. And so just by selecting something, we bring up the modify ribbon. Cut is the thing we want. This thing here, make sure that's checked multiple cut that saves a huge amount of time. So now we're going to click on the rafter and then we're going to click on the reference plane. That's that one done. And then we're just going to click on these as fast as we can and that will just run through the full 24 that are left and then eventually we'll see nothing in front of us. So just get clicking. And then you're done. It's easy as that. I'll leave the other side for you to finish off. It's a very, very simple process. Let's move over now to the level of three floor plan and let's get on with trimming these things. So these ones, these are all going to be trimmed to this outer edge, this reference plane here. So a couple of things we need to do first is these first three, this one, I think this one's right so this one needs to go as well. And this one is trimmed, this one's trimmed this one's trimmed. Then this one and this one, that one and that one, they need to be shortened. So there's a couple of ways to do it. You could either use a split tool and then that leaves a bit behind which you can fish out later. Or you can click on it and then make sure you drag this end a handle not that one there. That's just going to pull the same height along its path. And so this is just going to look weird this could be a different pitch and it'll be the same length. So this is the one you want to grab and you can pull that up to roundabout there. And this one, so selecting these things is probably the trickiest bit. And I move that up to there, select that, moved that up and then this one move that up. So now we've reduced the lengths of those ones. This should be fine. I think it's probably on the edge, but anyway, let's see what happens. So just click on something, it doesn't matter. And then cut, and then let's come down to maybe this one, just make sure multiple cut is still selected. Let's click on the rafter and then this plane, and then we can just start clicking on these ones. The thing about using this method is it just gets rid, or it trims out There's no a bit leftover that we need to worry about. So that's that one done. Now we can hit escape and then just again, just select something and get cut, and then choose this rafter and then just click on the line. And then keep clicking on these ones. And that's then done. So that's quite a simple process in the end. For these ones we've got a similar task ahead of us. And once again, just make sure that these are brought in, quite a way some of them. And I think sometimes tabbing might be the easier thing to do. That should be fine for that side. Then probably this one more. There you go. And again, the same process. So getting close and then select something, cut, and then choose the rafter and then the cut plane this time it's the one on the inside. And then you can just come in and click these, and hopefully they all trim to the inside. And then escape, select something, cut, select rafter, select trim, and then keep selecting the rafters. So these two, I didn't do a very good job on those. So let's just select those again, push them out a bit more and repeat the process. So cut rafter, and then trim line and then select that one. So that's it. That's our rafters all trimmed out, so we can have a look in 3D on what we've now created. Maybe we can hide the roof so we can right click on the roof, hide in view element. And now we've created our roof that looks a bit like that. In the next exercise, we're just going to put in the purlins. So these go in at different positions in different heights. And then we've got the unenviable task of putting in this trimmer along here and mirror it to that side. But it shouldn't be too tricky if we use the right tools.
