Using constraints

and constraints behind the scenes and there's many constraints that we can apply directly to the model to kind of lock in our design intent. So in this video I'd like to show you a few of the constraints that we have available to us. So I'm going to start over on the right hand side of the floor plan and I'll right-click, choose Zoom in Region, to the edge of the door here, place the dimension, click the Modify tool to cancel, then I'll select the door, that activates that dimension, and then I can click right on that number and put in the desired value. So let's say it's 900 millimeters. Now at the moment I've just moved the door, but let's say it's important to me that that door stay 900 millimeters off of that column line. Well, what I can do is actually select that dimension and there's a small little padlock right here and I can simply lock it. So now the way that that works is if I later come in and move the column line it will take the door with it. So that's a really simple…
