Adding drafting views

- [Instructor] Sometimes we wanna detail, but this time we don't wanna use any of the actual model. That's fine, we can do that. What I'd like to do here is create a drafting view, draw in a concrete pad, then draw in some earth, and call it a day. To get started, let's go to the View tab. On the View tab, we have the Drafting View button. Let's go ahead and click that. For the new drafting view, let's set our scale to be three quarters of an inch equals a foot, let's click OK. It's just a blank piece of paper, let's get started. Let's go to the Annotate tab. The Annotate tab is basically your switchboard for all things drafting. The first thing I'd like to do is click on Detail Line. Now notice over here for our line styles, it's as if we have a layer dropdown. I'm gonna go with wide lines. I'm gonna draw a line up eight inches. I'm gonna draw it over about ten feet. I'm gonna come down, and I'm gonna come over. Then I'm gonna hit Escape a couple of times. What I'm gonna do now, is fill this with concrete hatch. To do that, I'm gonna click on the Region button. Go ahead and click Region. Now what I wanna do is find the region we want. This replaces the hatching in AutoCAD. I click the dropdown, and I don't see one that I like. That's okay, we're gonna make a new one. Click Edit Type, now let's duplicate, and let's call it Concrete, and let's hit OK. For the fill pattern, instead of diagonal crosshatch, click into this dialog, and click the Builder button. Let's grab concrete right here. Let's click OK. Let's click OK. This time for the line style, I'm gonna just select invisible lines. We already have our line so that's fine. On the Draw panel, I'm gonna click the Pick Lines button. I'm gonna hover over one of these lines. Then I wanna hit my Tab key, and it's gonna highlight the entire thing. I select it, and I simply click on Finish Edit mode. Then I hit Escape, and it puts my concrete in. I'm gonna draw an earth hatch now. I'm gonna click on Region. This time I'm gonna do a couple different things. First of all I'm gonna make another filled region. So I'm gonna click Edit Type. I'm gonna duplicate this, and I'm gonna call it Earth. I'm gonna click OK. For my fill pattern, I'm gonna click on the concrete, I'm gonna scroll down till I find earth. It's right here. I'm gonna click OK, and I'm gonna click OK. Now, for my line style, let's switch this to thin lines. I'm just gonna draw kind of a jagged line that goes down like this. I'm gonna hit Escape. Over here, I'll draw a line about halfway up the pad. And I'll draw it like this. I'm gonna hit Escape. Now I'm gonna switch over to invisible lines. I'm gonna go from here, to here, to here. Then I'm just gonna draw in a jagged line like this. I'm gonna hit Escape. Now once I'm done, I'm gonna simply click on Finish Edit mode, and I've drawn my earth hatch. Pretty cool, huh? I'm gonna throw a dimension on there really quick. So on the Annotation tab, let's click Aligned. Eight inches, we can move this up and out of the way. Let's hit Escape a couple times. So there we have it, this pad is not in our model, but yet we're able to simply draft it in as we want. So with that being said, we can draft just like we did in AutoCAD, some people actually don't realize that.
