Starting a mechanical project

- [Instructor] It's time to think mechanical. We're not going to get very far without a mechanical project being set up, so let's do that now. Under models let's go to new. I want to click browse just to make sure we're in the right directory. And we not. This is US Imperial. I'd like to go up one. Let's go to US Metric. Let's go to Mechanical_Default_Metric and click open. Now let's click okay. Perfect. It comes up in our mechanical template. We have a few default levels, but we'll deal with that in a minute. First thing we need to do is bring in an architectural model. Let's go to insert. Let's link Revit. Browse to where you keeping your backgrounds, or you can grab any architectural model you want. I'm going to grab my architectural model. I'm going to keep my positioning auto-origin origin, and then I'll click open. Nice. I want to select our link. Now I want to make sure that we pin it, so click pin, that way you can't inadvertently move it. When it's still selected, let's click edit type. And let's turn on room bounding. This means that when we put in mechanical spaces, which we're going to do in this video, it's going to know where the walls are and it's going to be able to read in the room information. Click okay. Let's hit escape a couple times. Next thing I want to do is create some levels. What we're going to see is we have this little datum that's sitting here. This is an elevation marker. Notice in our project browser, we have a list of views. We come down to South - Mech. This South - Mech and this South - Mech are the same things. So I'm going to double-click on this South Mechanical. And look at that, we're in an elevation. The only way you can add levels is in an elevation or section. Now, these levels are ours, level two and level one. These levels are the architects. If you zoom in here, select level two, notice that it lights up a grip. Don't click it on the bubble 'cause that won't help. You got to click on level two, gets the grip. Now if you pick, hold and drag to the right, it will pull it out of there, that way we can see which is ours. Let's hit escape a couple times. Perfect. We want our level two to match with their level two. So what I'd like to do is go to the modify tab, click align or notice in parentheses you can type A + L. So click align. The destination is what we want to click first, so select level two and select our level two and that's going to move it up. Hit escape a couple times. Perfect. Now let's go to the architecture tab, and let's click the level button. You can type L + L I guess, I've never done that, but click level. Now on the drop panel, click pick lines. It says make plan view. Let's click on plan view types. It's going to make a ceiling plan, floor plan. Let's uncheck structural plan, we don't really need that. Click okay. Now click level three. It's not going to look like it did anything but we'll fix that. Level four, level five. And you can't really see it too well, but this is the roof level right here. Now if you zoom out a little bit so you can see level two, remember that grip we grabbed before? Same thing here, pick this grip, it's going to bring 'em all out til you get even with level two and then let go. Click this button right here, and that's going to turn on that information. Hit escape a couple times. Do the same with this one. Escape. This one. Escape. And then this one. Hit escape a few times. Nice, not too bad. So let's scroll up and find them. Looks like floor plans are good, but ceiling plans not so much. Floor plans, let's rename 1 - Mech and 2 - Mech, so I'm going to click in the 1 - Mech, call it level one. And hit enter. 2 - Mech, let's rename that to level two. That looks nice. Under these question marks, we're going to find our missing ceiling plans. So let's go on an excavation journey. Click on that, click on ceiling plans. Oop, there they are. Level six needs to be renamed, but that's okay. We can do that. Select all of these plans. The problem is, they're not allocated as mechanical, so if we scroll down to our discipline. Discipline's mechanical and that's fine. Sub-discipline, let's hit the drop-down here, and let's select HVAC and hit apply. Now our ceiling plans are here. So I'm going to click on 2 - Ceiling Mech, I'm going to rename that to level space two. Hit enter. 1 - Ceiling Mech, I'm going to call that level space one. I'm going to hit enter. Perfect. Let's add some spaces. Under floors plans level one, let's double-click on that. I'm going to zoom out and I'm going to look at my model here. There's room information that we can get. So let's go to the analyze tab. Let's click space. Now when we hover over a room, it should find it. If it doesn't, remember you need to select the plan, click edit type, and make sure room bounding is turned on. Hit cancel, hit escape. Click space. Notice that when we click here, it puts in it. It only says space one, but that's okay we're going to be able to get the information out of it. Click there. Click there. Now, we're going to go through and we're going to click our little spaces. There's a way to automatically do this, but I want to do it manually. Notice that this is one big space. I thought is was two, but that's okay. I deleted this space, here and then here. I think that's everything I want. Hit escape a couple of times. Now, these say the wrong stuff. If you hover over any one of these spaces, out in the middle somewhere you'll see that it's there. I'm going to select say space nine. I'm going to look at my properties of space nine, but check it out. It's 106 EXAM. Doesn't say that here, so what we can do is hit escape a few times. Click on space naming. For the options, we're going to go names and numbers. Then we'll click okay. Bingo. Kay, go ahead and save your model, and we are all set.
