Adding grids to the model

- Now that we have a structural grid in place adding columns is going to be a snap. So let's get going! Let jump into structure 07. Under structural plans, let's go down to Level 1. Zoom in on this area here, grid line 1A. Or we should say A1. Go to "Structure", click "Column," Let's click "Load family." I'm going to scroll up till I get to my US Imperial. Don't go to this category, those are fake columns. Let's go down to the real "Structural Columns" right here. Let's go to "Steel." Let's grab HSS-Hollow Structural Section, click "Open." Now I want to scroll down till I find HSS 6x6x5/8. Click "OK." Excellent. Now, notice right here, let's select "Height," and let's send this all the way up to the "ROOF." Zoom into this area here. I'm going to place this right on this grid intersection. Pick that point. Hit escape a couple of times. Now, select this column. Notice that the column mark location is set for A1. So it seemed like we randomly drew these column lines in. We didn't. Revit understands that that's a point in our model. Kind of cool. I'm going to zoom out and we're going to add them all at once. Hit "escape" a few times. Click on "Column." This time let's click on "At Grids." Now, I'm going to pick a window around the entire model. We'll have to delete a couple, but that's okay. Revit's going to pick up every grid in a second, which is really cool. Once we found "At grids," click "Finish." Hit "escape" a couple of times, and there we go. Now, let's just delete a couple. We got a couple too many here, so let's delete that one. Select it and hit "Delete," select it, hit "Delete," select it and hit "Delete." There's a couple out here too. Select it and hit "Delete," select it and hit "Delete." There's one on the doorway here, but we'll argue with the architect. We'll get them to move their door. The rest looks pretty good. Let's go to a 3D view. We can't see them, but if we kind of look in here we'll see how our columns are starting to sketch up through the building. What we can do is we can change our discipline to "Structural." Click "Apply." There we go. Looks a little better. We have our curtain wall sitting there. I think that's kind of cool. That's why we offset these in six inches. Cause we're going to have to support that glass curtain wall that the architects put in. Okay. So there we go, that's how we add structural columns.
