Adding perimeter beams

- [Instructor] What I'd like to do now is start adding our perimeter beams. These will be the main beams that go around the perimeter of our model and go from column to column. Let's jump into Structure 20, I'm going to go Open, browse to Chapter four, Structure 20. Let's go up to Level two. Set your detail level to Course. Zoom into this area here to start modeling some beams. Go to the Structure tab, let's click on the Structural Beam button. Make sure Tag on Placement is selected. Make sure Chain is selected. For the beam I want let's click the drop-down, let's start going with 14 by 30s. This is going to be simple. All we need to do is click this midpoint, this midpoint, and it puts the beam in. Hit Escape, there it is. Let's click here to here. Hit Escape once. Now for the smaller ones we can get away with an eight by 10. Hit Escape once. Punch back up to a 14 by 30. And we can kind of just keep going around the perimeter to here. Hit Escape. This one's going to go from here to here. Hit Escape once. The small one's an eight by 10, here to here. Hit Escape once. The big one is going to be a 14, 30, here, here. Hit Escape. From here to here. And let's frame in our entire model just the way we've been doing. Remember, we're going to use the smaller eight by 10s for our little eight foot corridor here. And we use the larger 14, 30s for these areas. I don't have a very good system for this, but. Now we're going to grab a 14 by 30. I'm going to come up here, I'll finish that one off. Now what we can do to make it a little easier, I'm going to select this beam, this tag, all of these, I think you can guess what I'm going to do here. We'll have to fix this down here, but that's okay. Grab that to that, that to that. Now I'm going to click Copy, Multiple, I'm going to go here. Make sure that you're clicking on the center of those columns. Here, again, we'll fix that middle one, to here, to here. I've already got that one, so let's come all the way down to the end, to there. Hit Escape a couple times. Now with these I'm simply going to select this 14 by 30, I'm going to grab this grip, I'm going to drag it back to that column. I'm going to grab the eight by 10, drag that over. I'll do the same to the other side. Grab that, drag it over. Grab my eight by 10, going to drag that over. And do the same down here. Drag it over. Drag it over. Drag this one. Select this, drag that. There we go. And these we can just frame right into it. If we're going to do that though, let's select both of these, instead of eight by 10, let's grab a 12 by 26, that's going to be catching this beam coming into it. So hit Escape a couple times. Now I'm going to just frame these coming downward. We could copy these down too. So I'm going to select this and this, this and this, this to this, this guy and this guy. Now we're going to copy, so click Copy, Multiple's checked, we'll copy here. Let's go to here. Let's go to here. Let's go to here. Let's go to here. And it looks like we'll have to just manually do this last little bit here. Hit Escape a couple times. Select these three. Click Copy. Go from here to here. Zoom out. I'm going to right-click on this 14 by 30 and Create Similar. And frame it from here to here. And from here to here. Hit Escape a few times. Just want to make sure we've got everything good. Oop, I missed this last bay. What am I doing? Going to right-click on 14 by 30, Create Similar. Go from here to here. Hit Escape. Select the 14 by 30, click Copy, let's copy it down the line. Look at that. This is outside the building. Look around, look around, it looks good. Go to a 3D view. There we go, we're getting some framing done. Looks like we just missed the radio area, that's it. Let's go back down to Level two. Let's come over to the radio area and I want to put some tubes in here. Let's go to Beam, click the drop-down, and let's grab a HSS eight by eight by 3/8. Now these are going to go on a radius, so on the Draw panel click on the Start End Radius Arc button. I'm going to go from here to here, now I'm just going to snap this to the nearest, we got it. I'm going to go to here, going to snap it. I go here, I'm going to snap it. Go to here, going to snap it. Go to here, snap it. Hit Escape a couple of times. Now check that out in 3D. Looking good, looking good. Okay, so that is how you add perimeter framing, pretty cool.
