Creating a slab on grade

- Let's start looking at slabs. There are two main systems we'll discuss in this course. One is a slab on grade, while the other is a slab with metal decking. The add a slab-on-grade, We simply need one thick material. Of course it's going to be concrete. We'll duplicate the existing 300 millimeter generic floor and modify it to suit our needs. In Revit I'm going to go open, browse where you're keeping your exercise files. I'm going to grab structural 24 and click open. Perfect. Let's go down to Level 1. Let's scroll down till we find view template, let's click on none and click okay. Let's scroll up till we find our discipline. Let's set that for structural. Click apply. Now on the structure tab, click floor. We'll grab generic 300 millimeter. That's fine. Click edit type. Let's duplicate this. Let's call it generic 152. So generic 152 millimeters and get rid of the extra two that's in there. Hit okay. For structure, click edit. Let's click into the material category. Click the browse button. Let's select concrete cast in place gray and click okay. For the thickness, we'll make it 152. Click okay. Click okay. On the drop panel, we're going to click on pic walls. I want to select the outside face of this wall here and keep going around the entire model. I'll click there and there. Click there, click here, and then there we go. Click finish. Revit wants to know if we want to cut these walls down and attach to the bottom. We sure do. Click yes. Hit escape a couple of times. There we go. It's showing all our interior hidden lines and our exterior lines. This indicates span direction. You can keep that symbol or delete it. I'm going to delete it. Select it and hit delete. Go to 3D view. Sometimes the analytical surface gets in the way a bit. So if you type VG, could do analytical model categories, you can turn off analytical floors, click apply, then click okay. It's a little easier to see. There we go. That's how we add a slab on grade.
