Introducing materials
- [Instructor] In this chapter, we'll begin exploring materials in Revvit. We're going to focus mainly on materials as they apply to rendering, of course, but in general, in Revvit, and in fact, in any Autodesk software package like AutoCAD or 3D Max, materials define all of the characteristics of what an object is made of. This includes not only the physical characteristics, what it's physically composed from, but what it looks like, it's textures. Is it transparent or not? Is it permeable and much more. In fact, materials can even get into the thermal characteristics. Does the material have insulating properties for example, or its structural or load carrying capabilities. So our material quite literally defines all of the physical and visual characteristics of some substance that we are using within our models.
