Linking architecture

- [Instructor] I'd like to start with the fact that we need to deal with the architect. There's nothing wrong with the architect. In fact, I like architects, but we do need to know what they're doing in terms of building footprint. This is where linking comes in handy. The objective of this video is to link in an architectural model. Then we'll pin it down and check out the halftone underlay settings. So let's jump into Revit. What we're looking at here is our home screen. You can tell by hovering over the little icon here that says home. Under models we can open an existing model. We can start a new model. Clearly you can open up previous models that you had open. In our case under models, let's go to new. For the template file. Click the drop down here. Notice that we have a few templates we can choose from. We can either grab imperial structural template or metric structural template. Whichever you're doing. I'm going to go with imperial structural, then we'll click okay. Congratulations you're now in Revit. Notice off to the left hand side we have our properties dialogue, and we have what's called our project browser. You might be in project one. I'm in project three. That doesn't matter because we're going to save this anyway. Notice that we're in level two. That's just a default. Don't worry about that right now. We'll learn all about the project browser and the properties throughout this course. The fact that we're in level two, doesn't matter because when we bring in our model, it's going to bring it in based on the internal origin. Let's do it, let's go to the insert tab. Let's go to link Revit Browse where you're keeping your exercise files. I'm going to grab my architectural model. If you're using another architectural model, that's fine. Go ahead and use it. You can still follow along using that model in this course. Now, down at the bottom, we don't have a lot of choices but for positioning, I want to keep it auto internal origin to internal origin. Click open. And there we go. Now notice we can't see much, but that's okay. The first thing I'd like you to do is select this link. It turns on a few items When you select it. Click on this icon right here. This is the pin button. This is important. We don't want to accidentally move this link. With at Pin now notice that you can't move it. We're safe now. Now with the link still selected let's click on edit type. The reference type is overlay that way if we link this model into another model our architectural model won't show up. Let's turn on room bounding in case we want to add rooms to this model. Click okay. Now in our properties for our actual structural plan level two. I'd like to scroll down until we find discipline. This is set for structural, which means that unless it's a bearing wall or a shear wall or some kind of structural combination we're not going to be able to see it with the disciplines set for structural click the drop down here and let's set it for coordination. Aha notice we can see some stuff now. Now I do know that there is a curtain wall out front here but let's see why we can't see it. In our properties dialogue next to visibility graphic overrides click edit or you could type in VG for visibility graphic overrides. Notice that it's only for this structural plan level two. Let's turn on curtain panels, curtain systems and then curtain wall mullions. Click apply. Click Okay, there we go. Now we've linked in our architectural model successfully. One last thing I'd like to do is go to the manage tab, go to additional settings. Let's come down to halftone underlay. We can select what our halftone looks like for my weight I'm going to put it on one. I'll apply a halftone, but I want to make it 80%. You can adjust these how you like to show your halftone underlays but I like it right about here. Click okay. It Won't take effect until we change it back to structural. Hit apply. Now we'll see those settings take effect switch it back to coordination and apply. And there we have it. So we're done. Save your model somewhere that makes sense to you and you can keep using it throughout this course. There you go. That's how you linking architecture.
