Sections and callouts

- Okay, it's time to start slicing up our model. Within a couple steps, we can create sectional views and enlarge views really easily. At the end of this video, you're going to be able to cut a section and create an enlarged view of that section. Let's jump into Revit. Under "MODELS", I'm going to go to Open. I'm going to browse to my "Chapter 9", and I'm going to open "Structural-43" and click Open. Under Structural Plans, let's jump down to Level 2. Let's zoom in on this area. Go to the View tab. Notice there's a Section icon here. There's also a Section button here cause it's such a popular command. Click either one of these, it's the same thing. I'm going to get a section right through this bay right here. Notice that Revit will send it all the way down the building. You can either click this grip and drag it in or in the Properties the Far Clip Offset you could change that here. I like to kind of do it visually. So I'm just going to pull it into about here. Hit Escape a couple times. Let's open this section up, go ahead and double click on it. Excellent. Let's name it first, before I forget. Not a big fan of "Section 3" as a view name. So let's call this "Framing Section". (keyboard typing) Click Apply. Let's set our detail level to "Fine". Let's zoom into here. Click Callout. Pick a window right around all this stuff here. I do not like how that Callout looks. Let's change it. Go to the Manage tab. Let's go to Object Styles. This is where we change everything in Revit, line style-wise. Go to Annotation Objects. Scroll down to Callout those who have Callout Boundary, Callout Leader Line and Callout Heads. Let's make the boundary thick, like "5". Instead of Solid, click the drop down here. We'll go Aligning Line. Click Apply. Click OK. Now all of our Callouts are going to look real. Let's go ahead and double click on this bubble here. Let's set this view scale to something like 1:20. In the Properties, let's scroll down till we see the name. So the View Name. Let's click at the here. We can backspace out of all this. Let's just call it "Typical Connection Detail". (keyboard typing) Click Apply. Excellent. Hit Escape a couple times. Now what's kind of neat about this is this is a pretty long span. If you select this box, it's called the crop region. Go ahead and select that. Notice that there's little grips here. But if I were to take a dimension from column line A to B. 4921. If I select this box and I click on one of these elbows. It's going to cut that out. Notice that there's a little grip here. I can move this in like that. It stays accurate, which is kind of neat. Not a lot of programs can do this.
