Adding perimeter beams

- [Voiceover] What I'd like to do now is start adding our perimeter beams. These will be the main beams that go around the perimeter of our model and go from column to column. To do that, what I wanna do is I wanna jump down to Level Two. I'm gonna scroll down to my Discipline and make sure this is set for Structural and click Apply. What I wanna do now is in the Project browser, I'm gonna get rid of my architectural model altogether. So, I'm gonna scroll down to the very bottom, and I'm gonna drill into Revit Links. I'm gonna right click on Architectural, and I'm gonna simply unload it. Because this is not involved in the Undo, Redo command, Revit's gonna give you a warning. That's okay. Let's just continue, click OK. Let's start framing in our building. I'm gonna go to the Structure tab. Now I wanna click on the Beam button. The next thing I wanna make sure that I do is come down here, and I wanna click on Tag on Placement. For my properties, I'm gonna click my W Shapes dropdown, and I'm gonna grab W14X30. Now, what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna zoom in here, and I'm gonna frame in from one to two, and it's gonna automatically put my beam in. I'm gonna keep going all the way down. Notice that it keeps stopping. Go ahead and click your Chain button on. Now I'm gonna go from three to four. Now I can keep going down like this. I'm gonna select this W14X30. I'm gonna click the dropdown, and I'm gonna grab W12X26. Notice that it re-tags it, and everything. Another thing I'd like to do is eliminate this whole column completely. So, I'm gonna go to a 3D view. I'm gonna select the footing, the pier, and I'm gonna scroll around, and I'm gonna select the column itself. I'm gonna hit Control Tab, and that sends me back to my floor plan. Now, to keep going, I'm gonna select this W14X30, I'm gonna right click, and I'm gonna Create Similar. I'm gonna go from here to here. I wanna go to here. Let's frame the rest of it in. It doesn't matter the direction which you pick. I'm gonna select this W12X26, hold down the Control key, then select the Tag. I'm gonna click on Copy, make sure Multiple's checked. I'm gonna pick a point here. Then I'm gonna copy it all the way down. I'm gonna copy it from here, then to here. Now I'm gonna hit Escape. I'm gonna frame some going this way, so I'm gonna go to Beam. I'll keep the larger W14X30's for this one, here to here, then here to here. I'm gonna come back up here, and I'm gonna keep going. Let's keep framing 'em in. I'm gonna frame in the front, just like this. I'm gonna keep going. Frame to there. Hit Escape. Just keep filling 'em on in. Now what you'll see is we can frame directly into this beam, and we can frame directly into here. It'll still frame it in, no problem. So, keep going. Let's hit Escape. I'm gonna pick up where I left off on my horizontals. Notice I'm hitting Escape after each time I'm done with a series. We won't worry about our elevator shaft just yet. I'm gonna hit Escape a couple times. Now what I'd like to do is frame in this area here. So, I'm gonna come into here. I'm gonna select my W14X30. I'm gonna right click, and I'm gonna Create Similar. I'm gonna keep my 14X30 W shape, but what I wanna do is on my Draw panel, I'm gonna click on my Start End Radius Arc button. I'm gonna go from here to here, then to here. So, I went from my midpoint, midpoint, and then I drew it out this way. I'm gonna do it again. I'm starting from here. I'm gonna go to here. Now, I'm moving my cursor in this direction. Once I hit the tangent spot, I'm gonna go ahead and pick it. I'm gonna do it for here. I'm gonna keep going to here, and it will probably flip my text. Then I'm gonna go to here. I'm gonna go tangent to there. Gonna hit Escape. I'm gonna hit Escape again. I wanna keep this open in the middle. Let's go to a 3D view. It looks like we got everything. Now what I'd like to do is hit Control Tab. Let's go back to where we were framing these intermittent beams in. I wanna select both of these by selecting one, hitting Control, then selecting the next one. Now, I wanna come over here to see how Revit's looking at these. So, it says Structural Usage Joist. Let's click the dropdown, so instead of Joist, I want it to say Girder, and hit Apply. That's gonna bump up that line weight. If we go to Manage, if we go to Object Styles, let's scroll down to Structural Framing. If we drill into Structural Framing, we'll see why it did that. It made the Joist just a little bit lighter than the actual girders. You can always change these, so joists are gonna be as thick as girders. Click OK. Go to 3D view, and I think we've got it.
