Coarse Poche Material

- [Instructor] In this video, we'll learn how to utilize the Course Poche Material parameter to modify the rendered appearance of elements cut by a section box in a 3D view. This feature's been available in Revit since 2016, and is a powerful tool for visualization. Open the 03_03 exercise file. In the project browser, check to make sure you're in the 3D view 03_03 Course Poche Material. In the properties of the view, scroll down under Extents and check box Section Box. Click Apply. Revit's now placed a section box around the Revit elements in our view. Select the section box and use the blue control arrows to pull the box down so that it's cutting a portion of your Revit model. In the Type Properties of our view, you should notice Course Poche Material under Graphics. Currently, it says By Category. You select the three dots on the right. We can pick new material. Pick a material called Black and click OK. Click OK again. You may not notice a change. This graphic override only applies to elements that are at Coarse Detail level. Our view currently is set to Fine. In the graphics control bar, if you change your view to Coarse, you can see that all of our walls show up black, but you can also do this by category. If I change my view back to Fine, all my walls go back to their original material. If I GO TO Visibility/Graphics and I scroll down to Walls, you can override the detail level of the view. Currently, it's set to By View, but if I hit the drop-down and change it to Coarse and click OK, you can see just my walls show up with the Coarse Poche Material of Black. If I click Edit Type and go back to the Coarse Poche Material, I also have the option to set this to By Category. If I hit the three dots in the bottom-left, I can click By Category. This allows me to use object styles to override the material cut of individual materials by their category. If I select OK and select my section box, I'm going to pull it up vertically, and I'm going to cut my building through the middle as if it were a section view. If I go to the Manage tab and I go to Object Styles, if I scroll down to Walls, I'm going to assign the material Blue. I'm going to go up to Floors and assign the material Black. Click OK. Now, you can see my walls are showing up blue, but my floor is still showing the material. If I go back to Visibility/Graphics and go to Floors, and then change the detail level to be Coarse and hit OK, because these are material overrides, they're showing up in realistic view. We have learned how to use the Coarse Poche Material parameter to override graphically the display of materials of elements being cut by the section box. This tool is helpful in visualization, because it allows us to show a rendered view that can match the graphics of a shaded or hidden-line drawing.
