- [Instructor] Last week we talked about using architectural columns as pilasters and other sort of bump out conditions on walls and how they merged in with wall geometry, and we kind of talked about the challenge in a situation like this where you had to kind of group two of them together and merge the geometry manually. Well, this week I want to talk about an alternative to this double column solution here, I'm going to delete both of those, and what we're going to do instead is create a custom family. Let's go ahead and get started. We're going to go up here to the file menu and highlight new and choose family. We're going to choose the column template to get started with, and click open. Now, the first thing I want to point out to you is the setting that makes columns automatically merge in with the wall geometry.
