Reusing existing Revit elements and families

- [Instructor] We're staying in Rest Room 2_2021.rvt, and we're in the process of changing the use of the restroom from a men's restroom to a female restroom. Now, the idea here is that we're adding elements and Revit families to the restroom to make it work. So we are going to add some other elements to this particular restroom, but we need to tweak a few families, add a few families. Let's make that work so that we have this female restroom as a prefab unit to go into our host Revit model. So we need to add a little side panel here. Now, we've obviously deleted it in the previous video. How do we bring it back? Well, it's an existing family. It's already in this Revit project in this Rest Room 2. So all I've got to do is go to Architecture up here, go to Component. And if I click here, you can see I've got all the families that I've been using. There's the toilet cubicles, the urinals, and so on. I want this one here, the Toilet Cubicle Extension Panel. So there it is there. And I'm just going to line that in and just drop it there like so and then just hit Escape. And then what I'll do is get in nice and tight and just make sure that I can line this up easily. And the trick here is just to select it, move it, and just make sure that you get that end to that end there like so. And then just hit Escape to deselect. And there's our little extension panel, and you can see it's a slightly different color. Now, what I'm going to do is do a crossing selection across all of these cubicles now. And one of our health and safety guys has said, "Oh, they're too close to the door opening." So we're going to move them. So we go to move in the contextual modifier at the top of the screen in the ribbon. And we'll just zoom in close and make sure that we get that endpoint there. Zoom out slightly. Pan across. And as you come across, you'll see that you can line it in nicely with that wall there like that. And then just hit Escape a couple of times. So what we've got now is all of our cubicles nicely lined up in that corner of the restroom. Obviously, this sink now needs to move. So let's click on it, and we can just hover over it and drag it over here somewhere for the moment. We don't know where it's going to go just yet. But the idea being now is the lockers need to come down here. We're going to drop the lockers in here. So we slant the lockers like so. And again, all we need to do is use the modify tools. We're reworking and recreating here. So I click on rotate like so. And I'm going to pick a point like that and just bring them all the way around through the 180 degrees like that. And then it's a move. And what I'll probably do there is take that from the corner. Make sure you get right in the corner, that one there. And we'll just pop that right in the inside corner down here. There's our lockers there. Hit Escape to deselect. So our lockers are placed, and our cubicles are placed. Now, it may be that we don't actually need another sink there. So I'm going to delete that one, and I'm just going to select this one and maybe copy it across. Use a multiple copy. And I'll go for the midpoint there. And we'll just set some out, say 500 apart like so. And we'll do another one. Take it out to 500 like so. And then just hit Escape a couple of times. There's some sinks, some cubicles, some lockers. And if you wanted to bring that shelf back in, you could potentially do that. So let's just highlight these, and we'll move all four in one go. And we'll just pick that point. Take them a little bit further over here like that. Hit Escape to deselect. And we'll bring in one more Revit family now. So we'll go up to Component, click here in the Properties palette, and we just need to find our shelf. There it is, there's our countertop there, 600 wide. And we'll line that in and bring that in on the wall there. Click on there like that, and there it is there ready to go. And what I'll do now is I'll just hit Escape a couple of times. So we've got some sinks, a nice shelf there, and we've got the cubicles and the lockers all set up and ready to be used.
