Take a look at a model

- So once you've gotten signed up for Project Soane and taken a look around the A360 webite, the next thing you're likely to want to do is to download some of the models and take a look. I've done that, I've downloaded some of the models as they existed at the time of this recording. And I've got a few of them open onscreen here, and I thought I would just show you some of the amazing work that's being done here on Project Soane. So this one is the bank stock office. This is one of the two interier spaces, obviously. And I'm looking at a 3D view. Now this project has several 3D views in it, but they're not named descriptively, so really you just sort of double click on them and kind of click around and see what you find. Some of these are showing the same space just with different lighting. You can see it's a little bit darker in here, so the author was probably trying to figure out how to get the light to come in to that space up there. And you can see the perspective is pretty extreme here. So, you can actually go in and create your own cameras in these. These are live revit models, so if you want, if you don't like any of these 3D views that are in here, you can feel free to create your own. What I really liked about this model, besides the fact that it's just really interesting, is it's got some really neat ceiling plans. So here we're looking right up into that dome. And I just think that's fantastic. And also it's got some renderings in here. So rendering is going to be a big part of the Project Soane project. And this person has actually modeled the foundations underneath the space as well. So we're down like the crypt area right here with this rendering. And then this one is a really nice view inside the space. And there's a couple others in here. Here's another angle. Again, the perspective's a little distorted there. This one's that view that we were just looking at where it was a little bit darker in the 3D view. And then here we are in kind of like a corner area, showing a fireplace and some desks and so on. So, really neat stuff here. I'm going to close some of these views just to try and manage my RAM here. And let me go ahead and close this model. And the next one, this one here, opens up to a overall floor plan. This is just the raster image in here, but you can see the space superimposed on it, so this is the console's transfer office. And this is another wonderful space. So this file's got, again, ceiling plans and sections and so on. Here's a section cutting through the whole space. And I like this a lot because it shows the different heights in here. But this one's got some fantastic 3D views. So there's an overall 3D view at the top here that's actually a section cut horizonally through it, so you can really get a sense of the overall space there and kind of see it kind of sectioned away. And then all of this stuff is modeled in correct categories, so again, we're trying to do this as BIM, so everything needs to be modeled correctly and these folks have been really diligent about doing that, which is really really nice. Central East is another interesting view. Now this is just a shaded view. This is a live view, this is not a rendering. So this is all live geometry in here. but you could, of course, capture this as a rendering. But let's see, there was a couple others in here that I really liked. Central East Ceiling, this one's looking up at the ceiling. And then that's really fantastic with those groin vault ceilings coming together here. And then there's some looking up in the dome here as well. So you could see the caryatids right here. And they're just sort of ghosted in, but I just love the fact that they included those, which is really terrific. Maybe someday I'll make a model of that. My favorite of all is these two. So this one's a really nice angle. This is the northwest corner. But I think this is an even nicer angle, this is the southwest corner. I think that's fantastic. That really gives you a sense of that space. That's the other interior space. Now, I think those models are super impressive, but even more impressive is the work that Andy Milburn has done on the exterior of the building. And so here's an overview. Andy's model has a lot of sheets in it, so I like the sheets because they have descriptions and names and so forth, so it describes what's going on and he's put a lot of notes here to kind of explain what's happening. So here's almost like a 3D key plan. And he's actually linked in those two models that I just showed you. So the console's office and the stock office, you know, they're linked right into those locations where they belong. And you can kind of see the caryatids right there as that's starting to load over there. And then, he's even given a little bit of the history here. This is the original block and then the different extensions and he's color coded everything based on when these things occurred. Now I've preloaded some of these because they're a bit heavy. He did a blog post recently, which I thought was really fantastic, where he was comparing a photograph from a book that was up on the roof. And he was trying to recreate that vantage point, so that's where this tower in the background comes from. It's actually of the church next door. And he used that to kind of position the camera and everything. So I just really love the attention to detail and really trying hard to recreate these things faithfully. So here's the tower and the vantage point with these red lines here. And I just thought what a terrific study, to get that angle correct. Here's another floorplan, color-coded. So there's a lot of floor plans, there's a lot of sections. And this is where we're going to be doing our work. This is Tivoli corner. Now this particular view actually has three exterior views. It's a pretty big file, it takes a little while to load here. So there's one facade on the exterior, and then Tivoli corner is in the middle here. This is where it comes together at that point, in the north part of the floorplan. And then up here, this facade is even maybe more impressive with all those colonnades and so on. So the work that we'll be doing in the remaider of the course, is I'm going to zoom in right here. So these are the columns that we're going to be building. And we're going to build them in three levels of detail. So this is the fine detail version, and you can see that it definitely makes things a little bit slow if you try and display the entire building using this fine detail version, but that's why we're going to create medium and coarse versions as well. So if you want to look at the overall facade, you can actually switch to the lower detail version and it will help speed up the regen. times. But we'll be going through and building this step by step, so that'll be the majority of the hands-on portion of the course. But this is just a really brief overview of the models that already exist up there in the Project Soane archive. I recommend that you take some time and download several of them, if not all of them, and just spend some time looking around and see what other people have contributed. And then if you find an area that needs some attention, go ahead and feel free to create the model and post it up so that you can be part of the overall project's own experience.
