Understanding reference planes
- [Instructor] As I've mentioned before, reference planes are the skeleton of a family. You cannot have a parametric family that can be trusted without the use of reference planes, it's that simple. The first thing you always do when creating a family is establish your reference plans. So reference planes are more than just simple little lines. They can also be named and working planes can be set upon them. This video will have us experimenting with what we can do with reference plans. Let's start our first family. In Revit under families, let's go new. In our Templates folder, we're going to browse down until we find a generic model. Let's click open. Perfect. In the project browser, the default is to land us in reference planes under floor plans. What you'll see are two reference plans. Let's select this one right here. Reference plane, when we hover over it, it says center, left, right. So go ahead and click that.…
