Using PURGE to remove any other entities

- With staying in AutoCAD and our '1031 SE Madison_Level 1.dwg' file. What we've looked at already is removing unnecessary layers, unnecessary blocks and other unnecessary objects from our CAD drawing in order to optimize our BIM workflow so that when we do bring our CAD drawing into the Revit model, it's not heavy, unwieldy and has loads of stuff and is a really big heavy file. Now the one command that is the good go-to in AutoCAD for tidying up your CAD drawing before it goes into a Revit model is the purge command. And it's real easy. You can see my crosshair there on the screen. I'm just going to type 'PURGE'. There it is there. And press Enter. Now I'm using AutoCAD 2020 so you'll notice that the Purge dialog box is somewhat different. That's because if I just scroll across here and come up here, there's the 'All Items' at the top. And we used to only get this list here on the left hand side like that. I'm sure you recognize that one from the old purge dialog box. Now you'll notice it's very different and what I love about the new purge dialog box is I can expand things out like this. So there's all the blocks that I don't actually need. So all of those blocks can be purged out. Now you'll notice here, 'Confirm each item to be purged'. I would in this case untick that and purge the checked items. I don't need any of those. I'm going to purge them out. So as you can see now, blocks there's no plus sign next to it. Now dimension styles as well. You don't need dimension styles if you're bringing a CAD drawing into a Revit model. You need to be able to see the layout, the structural walls, the structural grids and so on. But they can go as well. We don't need those either. They can actually go. Purge the checked items. They're gone. Now bear in mind when you do bring a CAD drawing into Revit, you can work with the layers in Revit as well. Now why don't you get rid of all the layers that you don't need? There's those layers there. We don't need any of those. They can go. I'm going to purge those out as well. So you'll notice now in the purgeable items, it's all done it's all gone. If I go to non-purgeable items these are all the elements that are in-use in the drawing anyway. So purgeable items I don't have any now. They're all gone so I can close the purge dialog box and I now know that this drawing is pretty much ready to be brought into the Revit model as part of our BIM workflow so that we can start developing the Revit model from the floor plan that you can see in the drawing.
