- [Instructor] BIM stands for Building Information Modeling, and you would often use a product such as Autodesk Revit as your BIM drafting and modeling tool. So as you can see, we have a BIM project in Revit 2020 at the moment. It's called 1031 Southeast Madison. And I've got a metric model here at the moment and it's running in Revit 2020. Now when I say Building Information Modeling, what you'll see is here at the moment what looks like a regular 2D floor plan. It's not. It's a plan through level one of a 3D model. So you'll notice at the top of the screen here we've got various tabs available to us in Revit 2020. So if I jump into 3D here, which is the default 3D view, you can see that we are working with a 3D model. And there's 1031 Southeast Madison in all its glory. As you can see there, it's using realistic colors as well. Now, the Building Information Modeling side of things comes from the fact that you can take information from this model. So you'll notice we've got doors and windows there, so if I jump into the door schedule, you'll see that I've got a schedule there that I can put into a sheet if I want to, with a title block, and that'll give me all the information about all of the doors in that particular Revit model. There's the sheet list there, so I've got a sheet list of all the different sheets I'm using, and these also are listed here in the project browser on the right-hand side of the screen. If I come down a little bit more, there's all the sheets there. You can see all the different views on the different sheets. What we've also got in there, like I said, is we've got level one, which again there the level one is a different view as you can see. If I come up here now and look in the project browser, we can see that we are in level one and this is just level one indicating all of our areas. So it's not bold in the list at the moment, but as I scroll down, you'll notice that it's the area plan gross building level one. And if I zoom in, you can see that we can pull all of the square meterage out of all the offices as well, and all of this information can be taken out of the model. Hence the term Building Information Modeling. That's the whole idea of using Revit for BIM. Now what you've got to realize with BIM, Building Information Modeling, is it's a workflow. You're not using Revit as BIM. Revit is a BIM drafting a modeling tool that you use to work with that BIM methodology and philosophy as you work through a project. So be aware that if you've got Revit you haven't got BIM, you've got to understand the concepts of BIM to generate and optimize your BIM workflow when you're using Revit on a project.
