- In this chapter, we're going to be looking at our last case study chair, Frank Gehry's Wiggle Side Chair. Frank Gehry is best known for his architecture, an architecture of billowing forms. For example, the Walt Disney Concert Hall is seen here. Or this bank in Prague, nicknamed Frank and Ginger, after how the building looks like it might be dancing, like Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers. Or more recently, this building for the Cleveland Clinic in Las Vegas. But before he because this world famous architect, he experimented with furniture design. Gehry is famous for experimenting with materials. Instead of using wood, or plastic, or metal, he thought, what about cardboard? His architecture studio was filled with it, as he liked to create physical models using cardboard. So he eventually came up with a board which he called edge board. Edge board consisted of glued layers of corrugated cardboard running in alternative directions. Edge board allowed Gehry to create the Wiggle Side…
