Detailing a space helmet

- [Instructor] Next up we continue working on our very cool space helmet from a prior video. This time, though, we're going to focus on some of the details. Let's zoom in here and check out this recess, so this one is done correctly. I want to oppose that to this, which is more of an extrusion. Now, it might be a little easier to see if we switch over to the ghosted view here, and you'll notice that the correctly done one comes in nice and clean, perpendicular, and responds to the curvature of the surface. In contrast, this simple extrusion just goes in straight, and it has different thicknesses, depending on the angle that I hit it, and plus it has a back wall, so it doesn't really respect the surface at all. So that brings me to the strategies we'll be using now to make this correct recess, down below in the final helmet. So we're going to be leveraging existing geometry and just building on top of it.
