Drawing spirals and helixes

- [Instructor] Spirals and helixes are on the more complex end of the spectrum of curves we can draw in Rhino, but don't let that intimidate you. They're actually both very straightforward and quite similar to each other. To help us practice, I've got the exercise file spiral- helix.3dm open. Now, an easy way to think about the difference between a helix and a spiral is to think about the difference in threading between a bolt and a screw. A bolt, which you can see on the left has helical threads. That is the threads along its shaft are all the same distance from center. A screw, which you can see on the right has spiral threads. These threads have a variable radius. Radius is wider in the center of the screw and more narrow at the end. So let's practice how we might make some shapes like these first by setting the practice objects layer to be the current layer. And then by hiding the reference objects layer. I'll also…
