Exploring recommended material types

In this video, we'll take a look at the two most versatile materials used for product design. And in all prior versions of V-Ray the most commonly used material was called Standard. But with V-Ray 2.0 we've a brand new material type called V-Ray Material. Or BRDF. Using newer technology, it has increased render quality and speed. However, the older standard material can still do a few things better. So it's smart to be comfortable with both. I'm going to go ahead and open up the material editor and take a look at examples of each. So here we have the leather used on the back. So this is an example of the V-Ray Material. Because obviously we have the V-Ray, BRDF right there. I go to the glow wall. This is a standard material. You can see the usual layers here. We have emissive at the top. It's actually no diffuse layer or anything else, but we don't see the BRDF. So, it obviously the standard type. So, as I mentioned the standard material. Has multiple layers.
