Furniture and the design of interior space
- In this movie, we'll be looking how the placement and orientation of furniture can influence spaces and how they feel. The placement and orientation of furniture within a space can give structure and rhythm to a space. Designers should consider relationships between different elements, such as the relationship between people and furniture, between furniture and the interior space, between the different types of furniture, and between the different geometries of that furniture. There are several categories in which furniture can be grouped and placed that will affect a space. The first is centralized. Furniture can be centered in the space creating a focal point. We call this a centralized arrangement. Doing so creates a focal point within the space and enables a hierarchy of spaces. By hierarchy, what I mean is that one space is more important than another.
