- [Instructor] In this next video, we cover the basics of building more complex stairways. This is a partial refresher from the previous course, but I will now include some tips on landings and railings. Let's take a look at some simple illustrations to talk about a few of the terms we'll be using. Once you know the floor to floor height, it's pretty simple to divide to get an equal number of risers which is the key. They cannot vary, by almost every code. In this case, we're going up one foot so that gives us two equal six inch steps. It's pretty straightforward. The trick I'm going to share with you, though, is we're going to add one to the number of risers we calculated. What we end up with is an extra step at the top and bottom, but that's going to make the math so much easier. You can always delete the top an bottom steps, as needed, once you complete the work.
