Lighting settings and strategies
In the prior course, Rendering Fundamentals, we covered a variety of lighting types. In this course we'll focus entirely on the rectangular lights. So I'll revisit a few important settings already covered, and then we'll hit some of the cool new settings. So very important note here, all lights are added to the total lighting solution, which includes environmental lighting. So, by default, the GI skylight, or you light dome will be emitting a soft, even glow from the sky. So, that means it can be very easy to over light, and blow out your renderings, especially as you add a second or third or fourth rectangular light. Also note that the skylights will not create any highlights on your materials as it's just too diffuse. So, for generating those important highlights, we always need to add these rectangular lights into the scene. So one of the reasons we use rectangular lights, as mentioned, is the highlights.
