Rhino objects - Rhino for Mac Tutorial
From the course: Learning Rhino 5 for Mac
Rhino objects
- Let's talk about the different ways that Rhino 5 for Mac represents objects. It's really important to know the differences because some are better than others for certain jobs. So the two main types of geometry in Rhino are polygon meshes and NURBS which stands for Non-Uniform Rational B-Splines. Now let's start with polygon meshes, which you can see here in green. If you've worked in other 3-D programs like Maya or Blender, you might already be familiar with polygon mesh modeling. Meshes are made up of groups of vertices connected by straight edges and flat faces and they're great for things like 3-D scanning and 3-D printing, rendering animation and physics simulations. The disadvantage to working with meshes, though, is that they're faceted, so you can only approximate smooth surfaces. NURBS on the other hand, which we can see here in gray, give us really flexible tools for representing both two dimensional and three dimensional geometry. And since they're based on mathematical…
