- So, by this point, we understand the importance of having a completely closed model for 3D printing, but as you start to add more and more poly surfaces together, it can become pretty easy to create unjoined edges or holes. I've definitely done it before, even using the best modeling practices. Rhino makes it pretty easy, though, to identify these issues early on in the process with the command ShowEdge. So let's use this building massing right here as an example, to better understand that command. To explain how this command works, I have two building massings here with slightly messy geometry. So if I select this one, you can see that it is a closed, non-manifold, poly surface, not the worst thing in the world, but still not ideal for 3D printing, and my other building is an open poly surface, which you probably won't want to 3D print.
